About The Shalom Society

The Shalom Society is a Jewish blog rooted in curiosity, community, and the ongoing work of living a meaningful Jewish life.

This blog was born out of a personal journey, the experience of converting to Judaism within the Masorti movement in the UK. Conversion is not a single moment but a continuing process: of learning, questioning, stumbling, and finding your footing within a rich and complex tradition. That journey shapes everything written here.

But The Shalom Society was never meant to be only a convert’s story. Judaism is too vast, too layered, and too alive for that. Here you’ll find reflections on Jewish history, holidays, halacha, and culture; explorations of what Masorti Judaism looks like in practice; commentary on Jewish life in Britain; and honest writing about the joys and challenges of faith.

Whether you were born into Judaism or are finding your way toward it, whether you’re deeply observant or just beginning to ask questions, this is a space for you. The Shalom Society is for anyone who takes Jewish life seriously or is curious enough to start.

Shalom — and welcome.
